Raffles city Marketplace

Going back to the place I helped launch in 1997 is memorable, more so because The Marketplace by Cold Storage has replaced the Japanese supermarket that used to be there, and all the shops have also radically changed. In fact, it is so different that the only constant is the fountain. I would say the changes are great though, because even though the shops got smaller, there is alot more variety to look at, with loads of food for selection!

So many cupcakes!
My first stop was at Dessert Cup. The staff was so nice and patient with all my questions that I bought 2 cupcakes, each costing $4.50. After bringing it home and tasting the chocolate on the cupcake, I felt it was quite worth it. The dark chocolate was delicious and the milk chocolate was also quite memorable. The cake itself was soft and moist, so the entire experience was quite enjoyable. Remember to use the spoon though, as otherwise you will get chocolate everywhere!

The packaging design was really lovely, and it protected my cupcakes beautifully! You can only get the box if your purchase 2 cupcakes, which is exactly what I did!

Next, I walked further and found Chewy Juniors! I really really love the taste and texture, and after eating the samples, I was hooked.

Chewy Juniors are really delicious, with vanilla as well as chocolate cream. The sweet juniors are more chewy and the cream makes it all go together really well. Chewy juniors remind me of a chewy cream puff, and though I wanted to take photos of what they look like inside, I couldn't as it was just too messy. The taste is worh the mess though, and the double chocolate is memorable, with little chocolate balls on the outside, chocolate cream and chocolate sauce coating the entire chewy junior! Chilli crab is a bit of a let down, but for just $1.70 one can't expect to get real crab meat I guess. Their strange mixture was imitation crab stick mixed with what felt like a thai sweet chili sauce. This is so NOT chili crab. After trying both the sweet and the savoury, my verdict is, stick to the sweet juniors!

The spicy chicken floss junior was great though, sprinkled with chicken floss on the outside and a sour cream of sorts on the inside. The pairing was really unusual but tasty! I also brought home a curry chicken, which are on the bottom left in the box, and that was ok but not particularly wonderful. I decided to stop walking at that point and go home after buying groceries, as I don't think I will be able to finish all that food!

If you happen to head down to City Hall Mrt, so check out Raffles City, quite the gem in the heart of the city with loads to taste at the basement.
