Lion Air super cheap air travel

Going to Udonthani by bus is 525 baht from Mo Chit bus Station and it takes between 7-9 hours to arrive in Udonthani from Bangkok.

When I chanced upon Lion Air Thai, I thought there must be a catch - 660baht from Bangkok to Udon, all in and with a free check in bag not more than 15kg.

I booked online immediately, the day before I was due to fly, and 660baht was nett, with no additional service or airport charges. How exciting!

I arrived at Don Mueung International Airport on a free shuttle bus from the other airport in Bangkok and the queue for check in wasn't too long. What impressed me was how fast they cleared the queue - each person took less than a minute to process their passports and load on their bags. The staff at the counter speak very little English, so it is fortunate that I speak Thai!

I was actually dreading to see the plane as I didn't know how big it would be. Imagine my relief when the Airasia plane and Lionair plane were taxi-ing side by side to their berths. Lionair uses a Boeing 737 which is much bigger than the normal plane that the other domestic airlines are using.

You can also buy tickets at their counter, but I don't think the special promotion is available then.

Checking in was a breeze as they divide their passengers into rows, 10 at a time so there is very little waiting.

The seats are wide and soft, with ample legroom for me. ( I am 1.63m tall! ) The seats are wider than normal and inclined at a good angle.

Thought I would show a sample of the menu! ------>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Lionair doesn't have a inflight magazine, only a food menu (food looks appetizing and inexpensive) and this evacuation instruction on the left. It also shows that they are using one of the latest planes, the 737-900ER!

What a lovely plane, decorated plainly but it was a comfortable flight - I slept throughout that one hour!

The only thing is that we had to get off on the Tarmac unlike the Nokair plane which was connected directly to the second level of the airport.

But that's great, because I got to take lovely photos of the plane! Want to save money on your next flight? Check out their site for the latest promotions and promotional fares! (English Version!)
