A Brief history of Singapore's F1 Winner Trophies commissioned by SingTel, the title sponsor of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix
Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2008, 2009, 2010 Designed by award-winning Singaporean artist Zulkiflie Mahmod, the trophy design is layered with 20 pewter panels. Projecting colours of a checkered flag, it reflects the energy and excitement of the race. Royal Selangor was commissioned to manufacture the trophy. At the heart of the trophy is a tapered scalloped core carved from solid billet and three sections are stacked together make up this structure - with the mid section twisted at an angle to create additional dimension to the sculpture. The 580mm trophy is layered with 20 pewter panels in various sizes and two different finishes while the base is designed to resemble a steering wheel. Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2012 Royal Selangor produced the winner’s trophy for the 2012 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. Designed by Singaporean designer Nathan Yong, the trophy is a modern take on the laurel wreath, a symbol of victory used since ancient Greece. Cast in pewter, the ring-shaped trophy exudes fluidity and dynamism, sculpted in relief with a diamond-shaped pattern derived from interweaving olive leaves. | Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2011 Inspired by a Chinese saying, which translates to "within the four seas, all men are brothers", the design symbolises the union of different nationalities under the spirit of fair sportsmanship, designed and produced by Royal Selangor. The 587mm-tall trophy represents the different nationalities of the drivers and skyscrapers along the race track. They were arranged sporadically to create a sense of movement akin to the speed of the race. Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2013 This is the first time that the trophy is being designed and produced by a local company, Risis. The trophy, inspired by Singapore's skyline, when viewed from the top, captures the actual shape of the track. The trophy, aptly named Unite, is a trophy to reward the best for their unyielding passion & limitless drive. |
