iFly Singapore Review- Safe Indoor Sky Diving

4/16/2014

iFly Singapore is listed on the Guinness Book of records as having the largest indoor wind tunnel. Before heading to iFly Singapore, I had done a lot of research online and everyone who has tried it said it was safe. I had visions of myself flying up wildly and slamming to the ground, or being whipped round and round as if I was in a hurricane.

None of that happened.

But I did go home with muscle ache on my arms and thighs, and it felt like I had an amazing workout, even though I was airborne for less than a minute in total.

I flew! I was not in harness, nor held by the instructor, I actually flew! Nothing beats that totally FREE feeling, and knowing that you are totally safe helps. Click on Read more to check out the entire iFly Singapore Experience!

Where is it?

Address: 43 Siloso Beach Walk,
Sentosa Island, Singapore 099010
Tel: 6571 0000

Super easy to find, by Taxi, Bus or Monorail. I took a cab in and told the Uncle driving, Beach Station. It was that easy. If you come in via Monorail, you just drop off at the Beach Station and walk down the escalator to see ... iFly Singapore on your left! First photo is exactly what you will see at the escalator, while the second photo shows you what you will see when you veer left.

What a futuristic building! I was told that investors spent a whooping 25 Million on this project. I was just calculating how many people must visit iFly in order to recoup that and wow...$25,000,000 divided by $90 assuming all adults, that's only 152 people per day, or 12 people per hour  if the they are targeting to recoup in 5 years. That's very possible, given the popularity of iFly with both locals and tourists alike.

Fly Singapore has been certified as the largest indoor skydiving wind tunnel by the Guinness World Records -
iFly's vertical wind tunnel has an internal flying volume of 373.190 m³, a height of 56.5 feet and a diameter of 16.5 feet, making it the largest of its kind in the world.

The tunnel has the capacity to accommodate up to 20 professional flyers at any one time.

iFly Singapore is totally themed to a real flight jump and everything, from the entrance where you check in to the training experience to the final flight, you are reminded throughout about the flight that you are about to make. I really like the sound effects while walking to Skybase as well, as it made it feel like I am walking through a small aircraft hangar, about to make my first sky diving jump. ( Made me feel alot more apprehensive too! )
With that promise on their logo, I felt very reassured. By the end of the training, I would definitely be able to fly!

Remember to wear shoes with laces, but if you forget, they have FREE gear rental available, and that includes the following:

  • Flight Suit
  • Ear Plugs
  • Googles
  • Helmet
  • Laced Shoes

A this point, I was really excited about flying, and do remember, like at the airport, you have to be there an hour early!

Knowing that iFly Singapore hosted the Indoor Sky Diving World Championships 2012 is definitely reassuring as well. After putting off the training to the very last moment, I am ready to take the plunge! First, signing of the form to state I have no know back, shoulder and neck injuries.

Partners in Crime! Both Jennifer and I have a iFly Singapore stamped on our arms.
Our first training room, where we get to watch a video featuring IX Shen the mediacorp actor who is really into sports!
The big projection screen with the video that helped set the tone and mood for the rest of the training.
A door automatically opened after the training video, and we walked into a bigger training room with training beds.
Our instructor, Kumar, was funny, witty and extremely professional. Here, he is correcting my basic flight position.
Jennifer looks like a natural, requiring few adjustments from the instructor.
Kumar taught us all the hand signs that he would use while we were flying, and we were off to Skybase!
At the base, we got our flight suits and gear.
The flight suits are comfortable and worn over our clothes.
The best industrial ear plugs - just roll and plug! I'm told that the fans are very loud!
All suited up with our earplugs, goggles and helmet!
Walking into the holding area was most scary, as I had visions of me hitting the net instead of flying.
And Jennifer is flying!
She can really arch her back!
On my first try, I was able to fly!
My instructor looks so worried and when I saw this photo, I was really happy that he takes his job so seriously.
Look Mum! I can FLY!
For our second flight, the instructor spun us around in a fun whirl, and it was a lot faster than just hovering.
Jennifer got spun around too, and Kumar was really good at balancing us out!
Yippee! We both received a certificate to show that we have had our first flight!
iFly Singapore has so many packages you will be spoilt for choice, but I would really suggest their party package! For 8 flyers, you get a party room for 4 hours as well, and this could be a wonderful birthday experience, or even an office pow wow for the senior management.

Their meeting rooms are available for rental at $200 an hour, preferably in 4 hour blocks. The meeting room opens out to another room as well, and a seminar for 20-30pax can be held comfortably.

I care alot about air quality, because since I was a child, I've had difficulty breathing especially in the mornings. I would wake with Sinus and after I got my ioniser, things changed. I stopped having Sinus in the mornings! I've since added a PSI indicator to my blog after the national concern, HAZE that peaked on the 21st June 2013. I now realise how good the air quality in Singapore is, after the horrific comparison when haze from Indonesia descended upon us in Singapore.
