I love food and I love eating! Breakfast in Udonthani can be such an adventure! You can go to a coffee shop where you get stewed chicken or pork with rice ( Very Western Styled!) or porridge mixed with rice noodles or even pick up bbq chicken or pork from the streets! Click on the photo to make it bigger, if you need to show the taxi / sam lor driver where you want to go!
The best Stewed Chicken in Udonthani! King Ocha
They have stewed chicken and pork reminiscent of western stews here, and no wonder, as USA had an army base in Udonthani.
The prices are pretty affordable, starting from 10 baht onwards.
Stewed pork is lovely, with the meat falling off the bones easily. 40 Baht per portion, and the sauce goes really well with rice.
Stewed chicken is awesome, with a huge chicken leg swimming in brown sauce. 40 Baht
Kai Katar ( Translated, it is egg in a pan ) is pretty special, as the egg is cooked in the pan with egg yolk still runny together with chinese and laotian sausages.
Here you can see more of the ingredients - mu yor (loatian sausage) is white.
Next, we head to another shop. This sells porridge, rice noodles in soup and glass noodles too.
The little banana leaf wrapped items would be the laotian sausage, mu yor.
A popular stall, many come here for takeaways. 3 big pots are filled with yummy goodness.
Very smart takeaway style - with a funnel, they are able to fill the plastic bags really quickly.
Pork porridge is tasty and you can taste the pork stock in which the rice is boiled in. Kao Tom
Turnip and pork stock flavours this soup in which big fat rice noodles are swimming in.
The glass noodles are slippery and tasty, and it usually comes with pig's blood too!
All nicely packaged and ready to bring home for breakfast!
Tada, back at home, the glass noodles are plated and sugar, vinegar, fish sauce and chili is added to the individual's liking.
Next, some pork and chicken skewers beautifully grilled is in order!
A Kind of rice cake which is slightly oiled to stop them from sticking to each other
This is like a sticky rice dumpling with pork inside. 12 baht only
This is my favourite and it is only 10 baht! Curry sauce with soft white noodles made out of beans.
When plated, this is how it looks like.
Soya bean milk is 5 baht and corn milk is 10 baht. The corn reminds me of corn soup, quite pleasant!
Sticky rice with a slightly sweet coconut cream that tastes a bit like Singapore's Kaya.
Banana with sticky rice, 12 baht only
Their eggs here are huge! I found out later that I was holding duck eggs.
Cooked to perfection with the egg white hard and the egg yolk runny. Love it!
This is another favourite. Sticky rice balls with a sweet and yet slightly salty filling with peanuts.
Steamed Tapioca with coconut milk 10 baht
Naem Sausages that are fried - Naem is made of raw pork that is fermented with cooked sticky rice.
What a feast at home!
