When I was invited to revamp my hairstyle at Poise Hair Studio, I was really apprehensive about accepting. What if I get a hairstyle I absolutely don't want to have? I spent the first 20 years of my life hating my hair as it was so short, so much so that I have been sporting waist length hair for the past 15 years, trimming my hair on my own. The last time I had anything done at a salon was in the 90s, and that was because a friend had just opened his own and we were down to support. See? That's how long my hair usually is. That's me with the big bow on my head. On the right. |
When I went down to Poise Hair Studio the other day for a revamp and a new hairstyle, I was glad that Qvin my stylist, started the session with a consultation. He asked how comfortable I am with a fringe, and I nearly ran out of the door. I told him, " No I don't like fringes, I don't want short hair either, and I want to keep the length." Qvin smiled and told me not to worry, he won't do anything that I would not like. I relaxed, and he went on to tell me that my white roots are showing, and it is time to colour my hair. I agreed with that, especially when all my friends kept saying the same thing too. Qvin then mentioned that he will give me a layered cut so that the length is kept, but before that, he will trim it so that what's left will be healthy hair. Fortunately, I was distracted by Chloe from Home Nails who was doing my nail art on my nails. so I said that sounded good and the haircut was underway!
The hair cut took longer than I expected as Qvin was really meticulous and exact in the design of my new hairstyle. I was surprised that he sectioned my hair into many parts and while cutting, re-sectioned my hair repeatedly, comparing lengths as he did so. Perhaps it has been too long since I have last gone to a hair salon for a hair cut, but I felt like a work of art that Qvin the stylist was working on, and when he was done cutting, the dyeing began. |
The white hair is totally covered! I thought this was the end of my treatment, but Qvin had other plans. He was going to use the Balayage technique, which is according to Wikipedia, the following:
| Qvin decided that I have to dye my roots first, and he used a 5.52 6% L’Oréal Violet Brown to match the rest of my hair, which I normally colour with the L’Oréal 666 at home. I feel like a futuristic cyborg here! After dying my roots, I had my first shampoo of my hair. The water was nice and warm, just the way I like it, and I was really surprised that Qvin did the shampooing of my hair. While getting my hair washed, I felt super pampered as Qvin's fingers were so light and gentle. I asked him what motivates him everyday, and he said he loved making people beautiful by making their hair beautiful. |
Put your mouse on the photos to find out more. The Balayage Technique that Qvin used while painting my hair with bleach is the latest worldwide trend. It gives a more natural effect than the normal highlights which are created by putting foil on your hair, slapping on the dye before wrapping. I love my hair! I even put on lipstick to match my red! However, Qvin was not done with it. He said that the lighter hair is just bleach, he will be putting some dark purple pink streak on my hair. Not done? My hair looked really good already!
Look at the colour! The Wella Elements range of hair colour is gentle on the hair as it is "free of sulfates, parabens and artificial colourants". | So the bleach lightening that was done was a 9%-12% till an orange yellow base appears. Qvin the hair stylist then created a Elements Pink mixed with a bit of purple. | The colour looked so intense on his glove that I was getting worried and imagining myself with pink hair. Trusting Qvin with my hair colouring! |
You must be wondering what the final colour looks like! So was I! I went for my last shampoo session, where the Shiseido Moisturizing Treatment was used.
Qvin is putting the final finishing touches to my hair, and I really really love the bouncy waves curling around my face. Their technique of using just the hairdryer to create curls was taught by the other stylists at Poise Hair Studio, and this reinforces what Qvin said earlier when asked why he likes working at Poise Hair Studio. "I love it here as the creative team is constantly innovating and creating trends. Fashion is a lifestyle and an attitude, constant innovation is needed." | After 7 hours, my new hairstyle is done! The assistant who helped shampoo my hair and apply the treatment is curling my hair with a very interesting technique. Using just the hairdryer, she is able to create really lovely, natural looking curls! You should really check out the video. It's too amazing for words! I love the colour of my hair, and how soft it still feels. I haven't had curls before, so the whole experience of getting my hair curled was really exciting and different.
