Beware of DIY teeth whitening kits

Beware of DIY Teeth Whitening Kits! "Beautiful" is one such product that has been making the rounds on social media, brought in and sold by bloggers.

As seen on Sureboh.sg (image above taken from the article), the bloggers are advising people rather irresponsibly to try the kit and see what happens, even after knowing that HSA Singapore does not allow direct sale of any teeth whitening gel with Hydrogen Peroxide to be sold directly - all gels can ONLY be supplied by a dental practitioner.

Why is this so?

An article on Www.theclinicreview.com explains it clearest, with an interview with Dr Gerald from Elite Dental Group.
Picture
This is probably one of the latest scams in Singapore, promising you a set of dazzling white teeth if you use their teeth whitening gel. What they don't tell you is, you could suffer from chemical burns, headaches and even, in serious cases, a loss of teeth - the very same set you are trying to whiten.

I'm not related to any of the bloggers selling the teeth-whitening kits in Singapore, but if you do come across the irresponsible sellers, report and tell your friends.

Better yet, send them this article where they can judge for themselves the dangers of buying DIY teeth whitening kits, be it "Beautiful" or any others from people on the internet.

People with existing teeth and gum problems should never use anything on their teeth. I checked it out with my own dentist, Dr Melvin from Tooth Angels & Co Dental Surgeons, and he mentioned, " many people are unaware of teeth and gum problems that they may have, and if they use DIY gels, they run the risk of irreversible damage to their teeth especially if they have gum disease or tooth decay". Also, teeth discoloration may be due to factors that can not be solved by teeth whitening gels. Dr Melvin Chia has added, "improper application of the teeth whitening gel may cause chemical burns on the gums", and if the gums are damaged, tooth loss is possible.
Picture
I usually don't write about scams in Singapore, but this concerns public health and safety, so I see the need to let as many people know as possible.

For Teeth whitening, I urge you to book an appointment with your trusted dentist, so he or she can advise you properly!

Fresh Hydroponic Farm Vegetables Delivered!

Singapore is full of amazing places, and this hydroponic farm, Packet Greens, I had just visited today is really off the charts in the sense that an entire farm of 50 different varieties of greens is housed in a warehouse in Tradehub21! This was such a wonderful experience, as Praise who was hosting me gave me all kinds of vegetables to taste while walking around marvelling at the farm.
The main difference with this local hydroponic farm is that they only harvest the vegetables upon order, and they do not cut the roots, keeping the vegetables and herbs super fresh - so fresh, they are still alive!

Pesticide-free Vegetables for your home!

Discover the secret of keeping vegetables fresh!

Packet Greens Vegetables are kept fresh as they are harvested upon order, and their roots are not cut off, unlike most vegetables that you get at the supermarket. In fact, if you put the vegetables back in water, they will continue to grow! The ones I brought back managed to survive for 5 days before they all ended up in my tummy!
Check  out my LIVE FACEBOOK VIDEO, taken when I was not expecting anything - in fact, I kept being amazed over and over with every bite.

Hydoponic vegetables are sweeter than what we get in the supermarkets, and I discovered the SECRET!

Harvested Only Upon Order!

They also offer cold pressed juice in their beautifully renovated pantry with a hip design! Check out the video, where I attempt to guess the fruit and vegetables in the juice!

Free Scalp Treatment

5/1/2014

Post by Oriental Hair Solutions.
In Singapore, companies are always thinking of new ways to get more customers.

This has to be one of the most cost effective and viral methods, and it is just so unbelievable that I had to try it out.

I signed up via the weblink,
http://ohs.pgtb.me/d0gcDV and was pleasantly surprised to receive a call in about a day or two - fixing an appointment was easy, I was able to get the time and the date I wanted on the first try.

Heading down to their outlet at Takashimaya, I was initially a little apprehensive, as I was expected some kind of pressure sales since the treatment is offered FREE.

Green Mango Salad in Singapore

5/1/2014

Picture
Waiting for the fruit to fall on its own accord, the mango is small, round, green on the outside but wonderfully sweet and yellow inside. The last time it fruited, most of the mangoes had little black worms, but this time, the mango is perfect. However, because of the last experience, no one else is gathering the mangoes.

Picture
Picture
The mango tree in our private compound is fruiting, with hundreds of mangoes hanging deliciously just at the foot of my office. Everyday, 5 - 10 mangoes would make their way down to the ground and splatter when the cars run over it, so I decided to start gathering mangoes every morning, before the cars start coming in.

Picture

We decided to use a long stick with a pen attached to the end to try and hook some mangoes. The mangoes that fell down were hard, crunchy, sour, but perfect for the thai mango salad that I saw in my travels to Udonthani.

Picture

You can see how hard, crunchy and unripe the magoes are! Using the knife to make repeated cuts on the mango before shearing it off, we managed to get the mango all sliced into tiny silvers.

Mix sugar with fish sauce and there you have it, Thai green mango salad! It was fabulously crunchy and the sugar took away the natural tangy flavor of the unripe mango. Singapore is very densely populated, but if you look around, there are many green pockets filled with a promise of adventure!

iFly Singapore Review- Safe Indoor Sky Diving

4/16/2014

iFly Singapore is listed on the Guinness Book of records as having the largest indoor wind tunnel. Before heading to iFly Singapore, I had done a lot of research online and everyone who has tried it said it was safe. I had visions of myself flying up wildly and slamming to the ground, or being whipped round and round as if I was in a hurricane.

None of that happened.

But I did go home with muscle ache on my arms and thighs, and it felt like I had an amazing workout, even though I was airborne for less than a minute in total.
Picture
I flew! I was not in harness, nor held by the instructor, I actually flew! Nothing beats that totally FREE feeling, and knowing that you are totally safe helps. Click on Read more to check out the entire iFly Singapore Experience!

Loy Krathong In SINGAPORE

11/17/2013

Picture
With the large community of Thais in Singapore, one would expect to see some major festivals celebrated here, and visitors and Singaporeans alike will not be disappointed by the scale of celebrations here.

If you head to Golden Mile during the Loy Krathong Festival ( First full moon in the twelth Thai month ), you would expect to see many shops selling the elaborately decorated "boats" or "Krathong". Traditionally, it is made with the banana stem and decorated with banana leaves, flowers, incense and candles, but here in Singapore, the base is made of foam.

Thais celebrate this festival, and believe it to be the time to float away all that is bad in the past year by releasing the Krathong into the river or sea. Some will include their fingernail clippings or hair with a prayer, while others will just make a prayer and let it go with a wish.
In Golden Mile, a shopping center located on Beach road just 5mins walk from Nicoll Highway MRT, there was a stage that was setup, and a band that played for free. Many thais were there with their families, having food and drinks while some aunties even danced along. Check out below for more photos!

Haw Par Villa - stroll down memory lane

Haw Par Villa was a place I loved to explore with my parents as a child. I remember all the scary demons of hell best, together with a tiger I got to ride on. The park, originally called "Tiger Balm Gardens", was built in 1937 by the Burmese-Chinese brothers Aw Boon Haw (in Mandarin, Wu Wen Hu ) and Aw Boon Par (Wu Wen Pao), the developers of Tiger Balm, as a venue for teaching traditional Chinese values. They moved their business from Burma (Myanmar) to Singapore in 1926 and purchased the site in 1935.

The laughing Buddha gets alot of tummy rubs as people believe it to be lucky if they rub his tummy.
As an adult, my forays there were few and far in between, but nothing prepared me for the state that it is in now. The statues were fading, there were cracks in the floors, walls and algae had all but eaten up the entire pond. But still, it has its charms.

Bringing my friend from Thailand there, we had a lot of fun strolling through the park and taking photos with the amazing collection of statues. Everything looks smaller and shorter now, perhaps because I've also grown a lot taller. I enjoyed looking at the gates of hell, and this time, it did not frighten me. No longer would I get nightmares about the men being sawed in half nor their tongues being cut out. I've really grown up!

It was really easy to get there! Hop onto the circle line ( the yellow line! ) and stop at Haw Par Villa. The moment you walk out of the MRT, you'll see Har Par Villa. If you can't find your way, use the application, How2Go - it's free and it works as its name says.

Entrance is FREE, so this makes it a wonderful historical park filled with fresh air and in the evenings, you will get to see a few joggers too. Click on Read more for more photos taken at Haw Par Villa and a of history too. Open from 9am - 7pm, you have plenty of time to explore the sprawling park.

A Brief history of Singapore's F1 Winner Trophies commissioned by SingTel, the title sponsor of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix

Picture
Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2008, 2009, 2010
Designed by award-winning Singaporean artist Zulkiflie
Mahmod
, the trophy design is layered with 20 pewter panels. Projecting colours of a checkered flag, it reflects the energy and excitement of the race.
Royal Selangor was commissioned to manufacture the trophy. At the heart of the trophy is a tapered scalloped core carved from solid billet and three sections are stacked together make up this structure - with the mid section twisted at an angle to create additional dimension to the sculpture. The 580mm trophy is layered with 20 pewter panels in various sizes and two different finishes while the base is designed to resemble a steering wheel.
Picture
Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2012
Royal Selangor produced the winner’s trophy for the 2012 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. Designed by Singaporean designer Nathan Yong, the trophy is a modern take on the laurel wreath, a symbol of victory used since ancient Greece.

Cast in pewter, the ring-shaped trophy exudes fluidity and dynamism, sculpted in relief with a diamond-shaped pattern derived from interweaving olive leaves.
Picture
Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2011
Inspired by a Chinese saying, which translates to "within the four seas, all men are brothers", the design symbolises the union of different nationalities under the spirit of fair sportsmanship, designed and produced by  Royal Selangor.

The 587mm-tall trophy represents the different nationalities of the drivers and skyscrapers along the race track. They were arranged sporadically to create a sense of movement akin to the speed of the race.
Picture
Singapore F1 Winner's Trophy 2013
This is the first time that the trophy is being designed and produced by  a local company, Risis. The trophy, inspired by Singapore's skyline, when viewed from the top, captures the actual shape of the track. The trophy, aptly named Unite, is a trophy to reward the best for their unyielding passion & limitless drive.

How cute is this? Even though I am not a die hard fan of Hello Kitty items, they are certainly cute! This is the limited edition Hello Kitty themed 12-Megapixel Camera with the swivel screen for beautiful self portraits. What's more, it has the makeup mode so you look as perfect as if you have make up on. Being only 170g (That's lighter than my phone!) and slim, it can go anywhere and everywhere with you. The swivel function is great for self portraits, also known as Selfies, and they have applications to allow you to edit your photos on the camera, whether it's enhancing your photo, adding stamps and stickers or even writing on it. It has a touch screen monitor to make editing on your camera really easy - this camera is part of the Casio EXILIM EX-TR10 family that has black, blue and pink models too. Designed in partnership with Sanrio Hong Kong, the Hello Kitty  X EXILIM EX-TR10 is only available in Singapore for 4 days, and only 100 pieces are available.

A Walk in Orchard

8/13/2013

My thai friend came to visit and I thought it would be fun to take a lovely walk down Orchard Road. We started at Wheelock place and walked all the way down to Plaza Singapura. It took half a day, as we stopped to eat and enjoy the sights and sounds of Orchard Road.

Picture
Beautiful conical building, known as Lane Crawford when it was first built and designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa, it is now known as Wheelock place and features the underground link to Shaw Center and Ion.
Picture
The Ion Orchard, Designed by leading architecture firm Benoy, who brought shoppers iconic malls such as the Bullring in Birmingham, UK, ION Orchard’s signature futuristic architecture has won two prestigious awards at MAPIC 2006 against stiff competition from submissions from around the world. The panel recognized that ION Orchard “demonstrates unique and progressive urban design” that will bring vitality to one of Southeast Asia’s most prominent sites.
From Wheelock Place, we were wondering if we should walk down the stretch of Orchard Rd or walk over to Isetan Scotts for a fun walk in the Japanese supermarket at the basement with all the interesting food samples.

Since it was sunny, we decided to take the "scenic" air-con route! We walked from Wheelock via the underpass to the Ion.Find out more about Ion Orchard right here: http://www.ionorchard.com/en/about-ion-orchard

I care alot about air quality, because since I was a child, I've had difficulty breathing especially in the mornings. I would wake with Sinus and after I got my ioniser, things changed. I stopped having Sinus in the mornings! I've since added a PSI indicator to my blog after the national concern, HAZE that peaked on the 21st June 2013. I now realise how good the air quality in Singapore is, after the horrific comparison when haze from Indonesia descended upon us in Singapore.
