Udonthani Hidden Restaurants

Driving up from Udonthani, you will see alot of sights along the way. I went a temple situated at the foot of a granite mountain, and found this lake in the middle of the mountain. A lovely restaurant was there, and the food was cheap and delicious.

They have freshwater fish (Pla Nim) in the lake, and the owners would fish and place the fish they caught in a net, harvesting the fish whenever there is an order for it. The fish looked alot like Tilapia, but where the Tilapia is white in Singapore, it is grey in Thailand. A very popular fish suitable for baking in salt, steaming, cooked in soup, made into a salad or deep fried, it is delicious and cheap. It is also used as a natural control against mosquitoes, as it eats mosquito larvae.

It is pretty amazing in Udonthani, as you really don't know what you will see in some forgotten corner. I wish I could tell you how to find this place, but I can't, you will just have to look out for a weather beaten sign made of wood and drive down a steep slope to get to it. It would be on the left if you are headed to Udon from Ban Phue.

Update:
I managed to find its address from the GPS coordinates embedded in the photo! To find out how to do this too, check out:

2348, Tambon Klang Yai, Amphoe Ban Phue, Chang Wat Udon Thani 41210, Thailand

Look out for the highway number 2348 as you drive up towards Ban Phue, and you should be able to find the restaurant easily.

The name of the restaurant is Pla Pao Khao Khat
